Happiness...

"Happiness starts with...

one word.
one joke.
one text.
one phone call.
one song.
one hug.
one kiss.

...and stops

in one

MISTAKE."

I just love the quote and in real life, this is so TRUE. Thanks to my friend who send me this quote.

World AIDS Day!

World AIDS Day is 1st December 2009. Celebrating it's them for this year, Universal Access and Human Rights.

What is HIV?

HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system - the body's defence against diseases.

Are HIV and AIDS the same?

No. When someone is described as living with HIV, they have the HIV virus in their body. A person is considered to have developed AIDS when the immune system is so weak it can no longer fight off a range of diseases with which it would normally cope.

How is HIV passed on?

HIV can be passed on through infected blood, semen, vaginal fluids or breast milk.
The most common ways HIV is passed on are:
  • Sex without a condom with someone living with HIV
  • Sharing infected needles, syringes or other injecting drug equipment
  • From an HIV-positive mother (to her child) during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding (but with effective treatment and care the risk of transmission can be greatly reduced)

I don't know anyone with HIV... do I?

Today there are more people than ever before living with HIV in the UK, but less people report knowing someone with HIV.  People with HIV generally look healthy and many do not find it easy to tell other people, so you may not realise if someone you know if HIV positive.  To learn more about the different groups of people affected by HIV view the statistics.

Is there a cure for HIV?

No, but treatment can keep the virus under control and the immune system healthy. People on HIV treatment can live a healthy, active life, although they may experience side effects from the treatment. If HIV is diagnosed late, treatment may be less effective.

How can I protect myself and others from HIV infection?

Always use a condom when having vaginal or anal sex. You also may want to use a condom or dental dam during oral sex although the risk of transmission of HIV is much lower. You can get free condoms from a sexual health clinic. Never share needles, syringes or any other injecting equipment.

It doesn't stop there. We need to be aware of what's happening around us. In line with the theme, the key slogan for this year's World AIDS Day include:

"I am accepted."
“I am safe.”
“Everyone deserves to live their rights.”
and
“Access for all to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support is a critical part of human rights.”

Like me, I am living my RIGHTS.

Hindi Ka Nag-Iisa

Wow!

Noynoy.

Oh well, sa mga di pa nakakapanuod, I just included the video of the campaign ad of Sen. Noynoy Aquino.

8 Things MEN Have Been Compared To

I had this text message sent to me by my friend and she is a girl. I was kinda curious about it why men compared to these things. Maybe they were right about it but maybe not. Some guys are like these but some are not. Well, here are the following:

1. ROLLER COASTERS
    - They excite you but only for a little while.

2. ADVERTISEMENTS
    - It's hard to believe a word they say.

 3. BOXES
     - They look so big but empty inside.

4. TREASURY BONDS
    - They take so long to mature.

5. ATM MACHINES
    - There's a limit to how much you can get out of them.

6. WEATHER
     - So unpredictable.

7. PARKING SPACE
    - The good ones are taken first.

Lastly,

8. HOLIDAYS
    - They never seem to be long enough.

So far, these are the list. It's up for you to decide whether your boyfriend or husband is like these things.

Yes, We're Gay But...

I was browsing my Facebook account a while ago and I bumped to one of my friend's link. I watched the video and I thought it was just an ordinary video, an ordinary GAY video. But I was wrong. Not all gay are the same. Actually, all gay people are different from each other. We have our own likes and dislikes. It's what differ us from other people. I maybe gay but I love Civil Engineering. My passion goes with it. Like the people in this video.

But this isn't because I am gay. But because I'm Elijah!

Insurers dropping Chinese drywall policies

Picture on the Left: In this Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 photo, a sign posted by the developers of Boynton Waters housing development around their Boynton Beach, Fla. neighborhood that reads 'No Chinese Drywall Here' is seen. Sam Moore, the sales manager said that the signs have drawn at least 150 people into the project. Many of them have houses with Chinese drywall and they don't know what to do. (AP Photo/J Pat Carter)

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – James and Maria Ivory's dreams of a relaxing retirement on Florida's Gulf Coast were put on hold when they discovered their new home had been built with Chinese drywall that emits sulfuric fumes and corrodes pipes. It got worse when they asked their insurer for help — and not only was their claim denied, but they've been told their entire policy won't be renewed.

Thousands of homeowners nationwide who bought new houses constructed from the defective building materials are finding their hopes dashed, their lives in limbo. And experts warn that cases like the Ivorys', in which insurers drop policies or send notices of non-renewal based on the presence of the Chinese drywall, will become rampant as insurance companies process the hundreds of claims currently in the pipeline.

At least three insurers have already canceled or refused to renew policies after homeowners sought their help replacing the bad wallboard. Because mortgage companies require homeowners to insure their properties, they are then at risk of foreclosure, yet no law prevents the cancellations.

"This is like the small wave that's out on the horizon that's going to continue to grow and grow until it becomes a tsunami," said Florida attorney David Durkee, who represents hundreds of homeowners who are suing builders, suppliers and manufacturers over the drywall. "This is going to become critical mass very shortly."

During the height of the U.S. housing boom, with building materials in short supply, American construction companies imported millions of pounds of Chinese-made drywall because it was abundant and cheap. An Associated Press analysis of shipping records found that more than 500 million pounds of Chinese gypsum board was imported between 2004 and 2008 — enough to have built tens of thousands of homes. They are heavily concentrated in the Southeast, especially Florida.

The defective materials have since been found by state and federal agencies to emit "volatile sulfur compounds," and contain traces of strontium sulfide, which can produce a rotten-egg odor, along with organic compounds not found in American-made drywall. Homeowners complain the fumes are corroding copper pipes, destroying TVs and air conditioners, and blackening jewelry and silverware. Some believe the wallboard is also making them ill.

The federal government is studying the problem and considering some sort of relief for homeowners.

Meanwhile, the AP interviewed several homeowners who, like the Ivorys, were unlucky enough to purchase properties built with Chinese drywall, and are now being hit with a second and third wave of bad news: Their insurers are declining to fill their claims, then canceling the policy or issuing notices that policies won't be renewed until the problem is fixed. The homeowners have little recourse since neither the Chinese manufacturers nor the Chinese government are likely to respond to any lawsuits or reimburse them for the defective drywall.

In each instance, the insurer learned of the drywall through a claim filed by the homeowner seeking financial help with its removal.

The Ivorys have sued, but it could take months for their case and hundreds like it to work their way through the courts. In the meantime, they have moved back to Colorado because their three-bedroom ranch home two miles from the Gulf of Mexico is unlivable and soon will be uninsured.

"It's been an emotional roller-coaster," said James Ivory, who is still making mortgage payments on the house. "It was all in our heads, nice weather down there, calm life, beaches. Now I don't know what to do."

John Kuczwanski, a spokesman for the Ivorys' insurer, Citizens Property Insurance Corp., said their claim was denied because the drywall is considered a builder defect, which is not covered under the policy. It also considers the drywall a pre-existing condition that could lead to future damage, which is why the company won't renew the policy unless the problem is fixed.

"If someone were to have bought a new car and there was a defective part, would that person go to their auto insurance to get that fixed or would they go back to the manufacturer?" Kuczwanski said. "We provide insurance, not warranty service."

Citizens, a last-resort insurer backed by the state of Florida for people who can't find affordable coverage elsewhere, has received 23 claims about Chinese drywall, and has so far denied five. Citizens could not immediately say how many policies had been canceled or not renewed because of the drywall.

Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, agreed that homeowners policies were never meant to cover "faulty, inadequate or defective" workmanship, construction or materials.

Tom Zutell, spokesman for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, said the cancellations are troubling, but legal. No law prevents insurance companies from canceling policies because of Chinese drywall.

"We are staying out of the fray at the moment," he said.

Even if a homeowner does not file a claim over the drywall and remains covered, they could later be denied a claim for a fire or another calamity if insurance investigators determine the home contained undisclosed Chinese drywall.

"If you think that by not telling your insurance company about the drywall that you're protected, you're sadly mistaken," Durkee said.

A newly married couple in Hallandale Beach, Fla., saved up for five years to buy their first home only to later discover it had Chinese drywall. They filed a claim with their insurer, Universal Insurance Co. of North America, and were denied.

Universal then sent the couple a letter, stating their policy was being dropped because "the dwelling was built with Chinese drywall."

The couple then signed on with Citizens, but didn't divulge the drywall issue, and hasn't filed another claim. The 31-year-old man requested anonymity because he's afraid of losing his insurance policy, and thus his home.

"I honestly don't know what I'd do if that happened," he said. "All this has basically taken us back five years. We saved money to buy this home."

Universal did not respond to requests for comment.

Louisiana lawyer Daniel Becnel Jr., who represents more than 200 owners of homes containing Chinese drywall, is advising his clients to avoid filing claims with their insurers or they could lose their houses.

"I really believe everybody should have an insurance claim with this," Becnel said. "But it's hard to tell somebody to go make a claim, then they lose their policy ... This is a nightmare for people."

"I tell people flat out if you file, you may lose your insurance," agreed Mississippi attorney Steve Mullins, who has about 100 clients with Chinese drywall in their homes.

One of Mullins' clients, Chris Whitfield, a 29-year-old tire repairman in Picayune, Miss., says he moved out of his house because the drywall was making his family sick. His claim was then denied by his insurer, Nationwide, which followed up with notice that he would be dropped because his policy didn't cover unoccupied dwellings.

Nationwide spokeswoman Liz Christopher declined to comment on Whitfield's case and could not say how many drywall claims had been submitted or how many policies had been canceled or not renewed.

Whitfield offered to move back into the house, but he said he was told he'd first have to replace the drywall.

"I don't know what I'm going to do," he said.

A Halo Over Moscow

by Mike Krumboltz

And you thought rainbows were cool. A few days ago, a mysterious cloud shaped like a halo appeared over Moscow, and the buzz has yet to break.

We're the first to admit that a photograph of the heavenly cloud appears to be photoshopped. It's just so...perfect. But meterologists have spoken up and said the cloud wasn't digitally altered. However, it wasn't exactly what it appeared to be, either.

When the cloud initially formed, some UFO enthusiasts declared it to be a "true mystery." Some even compared it to the giant spaceship hovering over Earth in the movie "Independence Day." Reality quickly dashed any predictions of an alien invasion. An article from the Daily Mail explains that the "luminous ring-shaped cloud" was simply an optical effect.

An official spokesperson for Moscow's weather department said, "Several fronts have been passing through Moscow recently, there was an intrusion of the Arctic air too, the sun was shining from the west — this is how the effect was produced."

The cloud loomed last week, but the searches are still soaring. Lookups on "halo cloud" and "moscow cloud" are both booming, and a video clip has garnered hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. You can check it out for yourself below...

Uruguay approves bill to allow trans people to change names and gender

By Jessica Geen • October 13, 2009 - 15:42

Trans men and women in Uruguay will soon be permitted to legally change their name and gender under a new bill passed by the government.

It will come into force once it is signed by president Tabare Vasquez and means that trans people will be able to change their name and gender on all legal documents, such as passports and birth certificates.

The Roman Catholic Church and opposition conservatives argued that the change in law could allow gay people to marry.

However, an amendment was inserted so that documents would be changed and archived, rather than the originals destroyed.

Only those over the age of 18 can legally change their name and gender, while people must wait five years before being permitted another change.

Uruguay has seen a number of LGBT rights victories this year.

In September, it became the first Latin American country to allow gay adoption.

In May, the country lifted a ban on gays serving in its military.

The ban was imposed under the 1973-85 military dictatorship. Under it, people with "open sexual deviations", which includes homosexuality, were banned from entering the military academies.

Legislation to recognise civil unions was passed in December 2007.

Jobless Birthday. Still Thankful.

Today is my BIRTHDAY!

I am jobless right now. I just resigned from my work and it was effective just this 3rd of October. I know it's too soon to resign from my work but I need to. It's not that I don't want my job but I am seeking more experience in the field of Civil Engineering.

I woke up around five in the morning to prepare for my yearly routine during my special day and went to the nearest shrine in my town. It's one way of saying thank you to the Lord for giving me the special day of my life for being alive. For giving me another day of hope, another day of happiness and another day of my life.

Breakfast, cooked by my dad. I know it's a simple meal but for me, it is meaningful cause in his own little ways of showing that he loves me. Thanks dad for the breakfast.

I thought I was able to catch a short nap after eating breakfast cause I only had four hours of sleep. Why? The first person to greet me on my birthday was Joel Aldor, a good friend of mine. He called me up at exactly 12 midnight just to greet me. I was touched. I just decided to play Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects in my laptop and was able to finished the game in three hours. Lol.

Lunch came and it was another simple meal. Nothing special about it. Just ordinary fried chicken for lunch. I am satisfied with it.

Mom told me that we're going to Makati after lunch cause it's my maternal grandmother's last day here in Manila and she's going back to Bacolod tomorrow. We left the house around two in the afternoon and arrived here around 3:30PM. Traffic was everywhere.

We just decided to stay in Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Greenbelt 3 to kill the boredom. Good thing I brought my laptop cause I don't have an internet connection in our house because my Smart Bro antenna is not working. Damn! I checked my five e-mail, Facebook account, Multiply account, Friendtser account and etc. and was overwhelmed for the birthday greetings that I have received. Thank you guys to those who greeted me. It really means a lot to me.

My maternal's grandmother's sister and her two kids join us for an early dinner here in Italianni's Greenbelt 2. Sicilian Chicken Salad is a must to order here. We so love this salad. We always order this salad whether we were in Trinoma or in Gateway branch. This salad never fails us to delight our taste buds. Not only this salad but also the pasta that we order here. Pesto Pasta is not in their entrée but we were able to order cause they can customize their entrée for customers. That's why I love Italianni's so much not just that I am a pasta and salad lover but they know how to entice their customers. Kudos for Italianni's.

Another special day had passed and it will happen again after 365 days from now. I am quite satisfied with what I have right now in my life. A loving family, good health, my relatives in Cainta were fine after the Typhoon Ondoy. Although, I am still waiting for that one special person of my life to greet me in my special day.

Although I am jobless. Still, I am thankful to God for what I have right now and for what I am right now.

Happy Birthday to Me!

It's my special day!

Still, flood

By Conrado de Quiros
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:12:00 09/29/2009

Dr. Prisco Nilo, head of PAGASA, says people should stop watching soap and start listening to news. As early as Thursday, he said, PAGASA was airing warnings of possible flooding and even raised storm signals the following day.

Well, the advice is sound, but not for the reasons Nilo adduces. People should really stop watching soap and start listening to news—to improve their minds. Not to get wind of the weather situation. The only thing that has become more fickle than the weather in this country is its weather forecast. People would be heeding PAGASA’s warning more if the sun did not shine on days it predicts will be stormy, thereby sending hordes of kids on holiday to Trinoma and SM North, and thereby adding to the Ayalas’ and Sys’ coffers. And if rains did not lash on this earth on days it predicts will be agreeable, thereby stranding kids at school who are hard put to find a ride home, and thereby getting their bedraggled working parents in a worse state of bedragglement waiting for them.

Didn’t PAGASA report some months ago that the rainy season had officially begun only to see some of the hottest days visit the country for weeks on end? And didn’t PAGASA say the dry season was making a comeback only to see the rains barging in? Maybe folk listened to the news and heard only the boy who cried wolf. “Weather-weather lang ’yan” doesn’t just apply to this country’s politics, it applies to its weather, too. Or its weather forecast.

It cannot help improve PAGASA’s credibility that it says things like “Ondoy” dumped more rains on this country than “Katrina,” a thing Arroyo has been citing all over the place to suggest that Metro Manilans should blame God and not she for their travails. I don’t know if that’s true, but even if it were, what of it? What caused the flooding in New Orleans was not the volume of rain, it was the fury of the tempest. Lest we forget, Katrina was a hurricane. Its force, which gathered strength as it neared New Orleans (Al Gore would point to it as a strong case for climate change, the storm’s wind velocity jumping wildly as it encountered warm air) was such that it broke the levees and sent tons of water tumbling into the place. That was what caused the floods.

There was no such gale last Saturday. Only one unrelenting downpour for a whole day, which is nothing compared to the 40 days and 40 nights of rain that poured on Luzon in July and August of 1972. For it to have caused the catastrophe it did, we do not have heaven to blame for that. We have Le Cirque to blame for that.

We have the billions that should have gone to improving Metro Manila’s drainage system and shoring up its dams but which have gone instead to feeding insatiable appetites, which is not entirely figurative, to blame for that. We have the billions that should have gone to procuring rubber boats and other rescue vessels to save lives and give relief during dire times but which have gone instead to flying public officials to watch Manny Pacquiao fight in Las Vegas to blame for that. We have the billions that should have gone to disaster preparedness but which have gone instead to preparing a lame candidate carry out a disastrous campaign to blame for that.

But PAGASA has a point when it says global warming has made the weather a lot more unpredictable, even if that very argument cannot augur well for its continued existence. The weather has become unpredictable, which is of tremendous concern for everyone of us, not just government. The best government may not spare us of its effects, however it may drastically lessen their direness.

Before Ondoy hit, I was just telling someone the weather was scaring the hell out of me. It wasn’t just that summer, or what used to be so, brought torrential downpours and the rainy season, or what used to be so too, brought infernally hot days. It was also that in one single day you would have winds blowing like crazy on a warm sunshiny day, which was perfectly all right with me, followed by lashing rain and humidity hours later, which was perfectly maddening for me. I made the mistake of leaving my umbrella in my car coming home one late afternoon to the first and going out in early evening to the second.

Weather may be fickle, but it’s never been this fickle. Certainly not so on a sustained basis. Looking back, the floods last Saturday were an accident waiting to happen. Infanta was buried in mud and rock in December 2004 from rainfall that loosened a mountain, just a week or so before a killer tsunami flattened Aceh and environs. A super storm ripped through Albay three years later turning the place into a wasteland, leaving only the roofs of houses peeping out in some places. A lot of folk have left, the ones that have remained are in constant fear at the first sign of rainfall that the volcanic ash at the foot of Mayon would turn into a putrid flood and overrun their dwelling places again. Why should we imagine that Metro Manila would be spared these devastations?

It is no small irony that Odette Alcantara died earlier last week, before the floods hit Metro Manila. She had been an ardent campaigner for the environment, warning of the dangers we courted with our continuing deafness to the cries of Nature. As Saturday abundantly showed—to residents of Metro Manila, if not to those of Infanta and Albay—that is not just the concern of people who have nothing better to do than hug trees. That is the concern of everyone. Doubtless we cannot solve global warming alone, but neither can others do so that way. Being poor is no excuse to not do our part. As Saturday showed, there is nothing better to do than to save the planet. There are worse things than being poor. Being poorer is one of them.

Being dead is another.

PIPO... Who is Pipo?

It was last September 19, 2009 and a Saturday night when I was invited by my friend to watch the invitational screening of "PIPO: Ang Batang Pro" at Titus Brandsma Center in New Manila, Quezon City. This is the latest film of Alejandro "Bong" Ramos who gave to us the films "Butas" (Loophole) and "The Big Night" and a film about hustlers.

Mark (Marco Morales), a professional hustler teaches the new kid on the block, Pipo (Tyron Perez), the ins and outs of the business. This time, Tyron goes daring one more time. In this film, Pipo is new to the business in becoming a male prostitute in the world of cybersex. A conflict arises when a foreigner tries to shoot a film about a sex orgy and he wants Pipo to be the star of the film but Pipo is having second thoughts.

A film that tackles the socio-community problems in our country, prostitution and poverty. A film that was shot entirely in one of the towns of Rizal, which is Binangonan. And I can't believe that the slums area of the town is far more worse than Metro Manila. Believe me, it really is. Life is really unfair. Even though the scenery is breath taking, there will always be a problem in that area just like Binangonan. Some people want to escape the life in prostitution and others are still stuck with it. We can never judge them for what they are doing because we are not like them.

After the film, I had the chance to have a picture with Pipo himself, Tyron Perez. He is so down-to-earth guy and a funny guy as well. I also had pictures with some of the stars in this film that includes Marco Morales, Michelle Estevez, Karla Estrada and Mystica. All of them are so nice. I had the chance to talked to them after the screening at the cocktail party. Thanks to my friend, AJ Rollon, who is one of the Assistant Director of this film. Michelle is so vibrant and her acting skills improved a lot. Karla is still at her best. Karla is still indeed Karla. Mystica is still Mystica when it comes to her clothes and yet funny. Marco is totally different from the person behind those films that we watched because they said that he was the King of Frontal Nudity in the Indie Film. Marco is so friendly and a charming one.

All of them were great and this movie is worth to watch. I love the movie and hope you'll love it as well.

Let Go. Move on.

It's been a year already since my break-up with my ex. Actually, it's way beyond a year and I am still single. No regrets of being single but still misses my ex. I know it is weird but I feel like like that I am still stuck on it. The three-year relationship ended so easily and I wasn't prepared for it at all.

Recently, we had exchanged messages in Facebook although we are not friends there. I don't know why I sent a message to him and it was really out of the blue. Well, I guess I still have feelings for him. Here is our conversation:

ME: hi there! miss you na! ewan ko ba! =(

EX: awww...bakit naman, di mo gusto yung work mo?
yup, dun parin me sa dati kong work sa alabang...1 year 4 mos na ko sa GE..steady pa naman..
well, meron pang ibang guy na mas hihigit sakin noh...=) dyan lang xa sa paligid mo..hehe

ME: wow. that's good at nagtagal ka jan sa GE... that's nice to know...

i know naman eh.. kaya lang kasi hirap makahanap ng kagaya mo eh! haha!

EX: hahaha..bakit anu bang meron ako na wala sa iba?=)

ME: hindi ko nga rin alam eh... ewan ko ba?

basta may mga times na naiisip pa rin kita!

EX: hahahaha...in terms of? =) hehehehe

ME: as a person nu... anu ba? comfortable kasi ako when i'm with you...

EX: awww...i'm sorry i failed you...anyway, pede pa naman tayo magkita..ehehehe

ME: magkita? eh mukhang busy ka naman eh...

i just didn't see it coming... kaya siguro til now eh hindi pa ako nakapag-move on completely...

EX: i'm really sorry for that....

ME: ok lang yun nu. tapos na yun.

I wasn't sure of my feelings when I had exchanged messages to him. But I guess, I really to need LET GO of my past cause I am still stuck with it. Good thing that I was able to watch the film "Management" with my HS friends yesterday at Gateway Cinema. And there's this line that really caught my attention and maybe, the Buddhist monk was right after all.

"Let Go. Move On!"
- Buddhist Monk, from the film Management

This two sentences with two words each really had an impact to me. Maybe, it's time already. To LET GO my past and to start a new life. A life without him. He's just one of the characters in one of the chapters of my life. I am not like this without him. A better person, more mature than before I met him. I am still thankful that I met him, that he became part of my life. And now, I really need to MOVE ON.

======================================

Just had the chance of watching this film yesterday even though it was shown in Thailand way back in 2003. And I was intrigued with this film since then.

Being a woman like Parinya trapped in a man's body is so hard. She needed to fight like a man in order for her take good care of her family and will do the sex change if she still has money left. I really admire her for being a family-oriented and still seeking her parent's blessing before she will undergo the sex change operation.

Also, the first song of the film really struck me. This is the song that made Parniya decided to become a woman in the future. Here's the part of the song:

"Even though I was born a gentle girl
I will never let anyone intimidate me

I will fight like a man without fear

Until my last breath"

This is really indeed a beautiful film, an eye-opener to those people who still discriminate transvetites/transgenders like Parinya. You should watch it.

Madonna booed in Bucharest for defending Gypsies

BUCHAREST, Romania - At first, fans politely applauded the Roma performers sharing a stage with Madonna. Then the pop star condemned widespread discrimination against Roma, or Gypsies — and the cheers gave way to jeers.

The sharp mood change that swept the crowd of 60,000, who had packed a park for Wednesday night's concert, underscores how prejudice against Gypsies remains deeply entrenched across Eastern Europe.

Despite long-standing efforts to stamp out rampant bias, human rights advocates say Roma probably suffer more humiliation and endure more discrimination than any other people group on the continent.

Sometimes, it can be deadly: In neighboring Hungary, six Roma have been killed and several wounded in a recent series of apparently racially motivated attacks targeting small countryside villages predominantly settled by Gypsies.

"There is generally widespread resentment against Gypsies in Eastern Europe. They have historically been the underdog," Radu Motoc, an official with the Soros Foundation Romania, said Thursday.

Roma, or Gypsies, are a nomadic ethnic group believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent. They live mostly in southern and eastern Europe, but hundreds of thousands have migrated west over the past few decades in search of jobs and better living conditions.

Romania has the largest number of Roma in the region. Some say the population could be as high as 2 million, although official data put it at 500,000.

Until the 19th century, Romanian Gypsies were slaves, and they've gotten a mixed response ever since: While discrimination is widespread, many East Europeans are enthusiastic about Gypsy music and dance, which they embrace as part of the region's cultural heritage.

That explains why the Roma musicians and a dancer who had briefly joined Madonna onstage got enthusiastic applause. And it also may explain why some in the crowd turned on Madonna when she paused during the two-hour show — a stop on her worldwide "Sticky and Sweet" tour — to touch on their plight.

"It has been brought to my attention ... that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe," she said. "It made me feel very sad."

Thousands booed and jeered her.

A few cheered when she added: "We don't believe in discrimination ... we believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone." But she got more boos when she mentioned discrimination against homosexuals and others.

"I jeered her because it seemed false what she was telling us. What business does she have telling us these things?" said Ionut Dinu, 23.

Madonna did not react and carried on with her concert, held near the hulking palace of the late communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Her publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said Madonna and other had told her there were cheers as well as jeers.

"Madonna has been touring with a phenomenal troupe of Roma musicians who made her aware of the discrimination toward them in several countries so she felt compelled to make a brief statement," Rosenberg said in an e-mail. "She will not be issuing a further statement."

One Roma musician said the attitude toward Gypsies is contradictory.

"Romanians watch Gypsy soap operas, they like Gypsy music and go to Gypsy concerts," said Damian Draghici, a Grammy Award-winner who has performed with James Brown and Joe Cocker.

"But there has been a wave of aggression against Roma people in Italy, Hungary and Romania, which shows me something is not OK," he told the AP in an interview. "The politicians have to do something about it. People have to be educated not to be prejudiced. All people are equal, and that is the message politicians must give."

Nearly one in two of Europe's estimated 12 million Roma claimed to have suffered an act of discrimination over the past 12 months, according to a recent report by the Vienna-based EU Fundamental Rights Agency. The group says Roma face "overt discrimination" in housing, health care and education.

Many do not have official identification, which means they cannot get social benefits, are undereducated and struggle to find decent jobs.

Roma children are more likely to drop out of school than their peers from other ethnic groups. Many Romanians label Gypsies as thieves, and many are outraged by those who beg or commit petty crimes in Western Europe, believing they spoil Romania's image abroad.

In May 2007, Romanian President Traian Basescu was heard to call a Romanian journalist a "stinky Gypsy" during a conversation with his wife. Romania's anti-discrimination board criticized Basescu, who later apologized.

Human rights activists say the attacks in Hungary, which began in July 2008, may be tied to that country's economic crisis and the rising popularity of far-right vigilantes angered by a rash of petty thefts and other so-called "Gypsy crime." Last week, police arrested four suspects in a nightclub in the eastern city of Debrecen.

Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia also have been criticized for widespread bias against Roma.

Madonna's outrage touched a nerve in Romania, but it seems doubtful it will change anything, said the Soros Foundation's Motoc.

"Madonna is a pop star. She is not an expert on interethnic relations," he said.

Jollibee and Hetty's Version of NOBODY

I attended a Jolly Kiddie Party of my friend's daughter last August 23, 2009 at Jollibee Blue Wave Marquinton in Marikina City. I thought it will be a boring one like the previous Jolly Kiddie Party that I have attended. No need to mention whose birthday party it belongs. Lol.

After we ate our food, Jollibee decided to give us a dance number. First, it was the Jollibee's theme song, "BIDA ANG SAYA!" Here's the video of Jollibee:

All of were laughing and how aggressive Jollibee is to become a dancer. He didn't fail to make us laugh. Yet, there was another surprise from this kiddie party. Another surprise visitor arrived and it was Hetty. Together, they had prepared another dance number and it was the famous dance song of Wonder Girls, "NOBODY!"

It was really fun watching Jollibee and Hetty danced and they did it right. I mean, the dance steps of Nobody specially Jollibee. It was really fun having a Jolly Kiddie Party.

Wish I can celebrate my birthday there but I'm too old to have a Jolly Kiddie Party.

I Am Not Like Katy Perry!

Last Thursday night, August 13, 2009, my colleagues from work went for a night drinking of beers because one of our colleague passed the Architectural Board Exam last June 2009. We celebrated his passing of the board exams and went to Obeertime located in Pasong Tamo Rd cor Dela Rosa St. in Makati City even though our construction site was located in New Manila, QC.

Although we haven't ate our dinner yet, we started drinking beers at around 8PM. Different kinds of beer were flowing: Red Horse, Colt 45 and San Mig Light; and the night will be incomplete without the "pulutan." Lol. So we end up at around 11Pm and I thought we were about to go home. I was wrong. I has 6 bottles of Colt 45 already.

My colleagues decided to go to strip club where girls dancing. It was a five minute drive from Obeertime. Still in Pasong Tamo but need not to say the name of the club. They didn't know that I am gay so I just played the straight role again. I know it's so hard but I need to please them, to make them believe that I am not gay. Geeesh...

So where already inside the strip club and girls were dancing and drinking another round of beer, this time, it was San Mig Light. After 10 to 15 minutes, one of my colleagues gave me a girl and this girl sat beside me. In my mind, I want to puke and want to go out of the club immediately. But I couldn't because they will suspect me if I went out. Just stayed inside the bar and I knew at that time I was already drunk, still I knew what's happening around me.

And then it happened, I kissed a girl. She kissed me back. We kissed for almost five minutes. Not only a kiss but a torrid kiss I could say. By the way, her name was Ashley and I doubt if it was her real name. I guess not. I didn't like what happened. The last time I kissed a girl was way back when I was in high school. When I still had a girlfriend. But now, things have changed. I liked guys already.

So it was like that there was a background music playing with the tune of

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

For me, I really don't like it. Maybe I am not like Katy Perry after all.

In Carranza's valley one finds a multitude of megalithic monuments as dolmens or tombs. Carranza turns out to be already named as Carrantia in the Chronicle of Alfonso III as place populated during the reign of Alfonso I (8th century).

Along the last millenium the historians have gathered different lineages in the valley, which names still(yet) perviven in toponyms of neighborhoods and in current surnames of carranzanos, as Ahedo, Bringas, Shell, Aldeacueva, Gil or Negrete.

Sectum Sempra!

"Sectum Sempra!"
- Harry Potter

The spell that the Half-Blood Prince created during the 6th installment of the Harry Potter Series which is Severus Snape on which Harry used for the first time against Draco Malfoy and the second time against Snape.

I had read the book two years ago but I can still remember the sequences on what is installed in the book. I watched this movie yesterday at IMAX in SM North Edsa and it was in 3D. Yes, it was in 3D but for the first 30 minutes only. I think it was.

All I can say, I am frustrated with the movie as an HP fan myself. I am a self-confessed HP fan. They didn't thoroughly explain why Snape became the Half-Blood Prince. He just admitted it to Harry Potter after Harry used the "Sectum Sempra" twice.

"Yes, I am the Half-Blood Prince! Don't you ever use my own spell against me."
- Severus Snape

For all who watched the movie and haven't the read book yet, let me explain you why Snape became the Half-Blood Prince. Severus Snape is a Half-Blood like Harry Potter. One parent is a wizard or witch and the other parent is a Muggle born like Hermione Granger. But Hermione is a Mudblood which both parents are Muggle born. Severus' father is a Muggle and his mother is a witch. Her mother's surname is Prince. That's why Severus called himself the Half-Blood Prince. Now you know! =)

Dumbledore was killed by Snape. And you will know the answer on the last installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. In the book itself, Dumbledore was killed on the main entrance of the Hogwarts castle. But in the movie, it was not. And Harry Potter is not hiding just downstairs, he used his invisibility cloak and Dumbledore used a spell on him so he can't move, talk and use his wand. It was totally different in the movie.

And where is the fight scene between the Dumbledore's Army together with the Order of the Phoenix versus the Death Eaters. Grrrr... I was expecting of more fight scenes and it should be darker than the fifth movie. But this movie was focused on the love interest of Hermione over Ron and Harry over Ginny. It became a love story movie. I was really frustrated after watching it.

Oh well, I can't change the fact on what they did in this film. But I am hoping that the last installment should be darker than the six films. Because all the questions will be answered in the last book.

Just enjoy the film!
