Facebook is for Old People

I was in Trinoma a while ago and went to Powerbooks to read some books and magazines while killing my time. I went to the magazine section and grab the Time magazine because the cover was Kate Winslet and why she won the Best Actress in Oscars. I was reading it and glance the magazine and saw this article regarding Facebook. I was curious and read the whole article itself.

So I decided to post a note regarding this and to share it to you guys. Enjoy reading!

Why Facebook Is for Old Fogies
By Lev Grossman

Facebook is five. Maybe you didn't get it in your news feed, but it was in February 2004 that Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, along with some classmates, launched the social network that ate the world. Did he realize back then in his dorm that he was witnessing merely the larval stage of his creation? For what began with college students has found its fullest, richest expression with us, the middle-aged. Here are 10 reasons Facebook is for old fogies:

1. Facebook is about finding people you've lost track of. And, son, we've lost track of more people than you've ever met. Remember who you went to prom with junior year? See, we don't. We've gone through multiple schools, jobs and marriages. Each one of those came with a complete cast of characters, most of whom we have forgotten existed. But Facebook never forgets. (See the best social-networking applications.)

2. We're no longer bitter about high school. You're probably still hung up on any number of petty slights, but when that person who used to call us that thing we're not going to mention here, because it really stuck, asks us to be friends on Facebook, we happily friend that person. Because we're all grown up now. We're bigger than that. Or some of us are, anyway. We're in therapy, and it's going really well. These are just broad generalizations. Next reason.

3. We never get drunk at parties and get photographed holding beer bottles in suggestive positions. We wish we still did that. But we don't. (See pictures of Beer Country in Denver.)

4. Facebook isn't just a social network; it's a business network. And unlike, say, college students, we actually have jobs. What's the point of networking with people who can't hire you? Not that we'd want to work with anyone your age anyway. Given the recession — and the amount of time we spend on Facebook — a bunch of hungry, motivated young guns is the last thing we need around here.

5. We're lazy. We have jobs and children and houses and substance-abuse problems to deal with. At our age, we don't want to do anything. What we want is to hear about other people doing things and then judge them for it. Which is what news feeds are for.

6. We're old enough that pictures from grade school or summer camp look nothing like us. These days, the only way to identify us is with Facebook tags. (See pictures of a diverse group of American teens.)

7. We have children. There is very little that old people enjoy more than forcing others to pay attention to pictures of their children. Facebook is the most efficient engine ever devised for this.

8. We're too old to remember e-mail addresses. You have to understand: we have spent decades drinking diet soda out of aluminum cans. That stuff catches up with you. We can't remember friends' e-mail addresses. We can barely remember their names.

9. We don't understand Twitter. Literally. It makes no sense to us. (See the top 10 celebrity Twitter feeds.)

10. We're not cool, and we don't care. There was a time when it was cool to be on Facebook. That time has passed. Facebook now has 150 million members, and its fastest-growing demographic is 30 and up. At this point, it's way cooler not to be on Facebook. We've ruined it for good, just like we ruined Twilight and skateboarding. So git! And while you're at it, you damn kids better get off our lawn too.

Final Harry Potter film gets release date

Wow! Rumors are really true. The last installment of Harry Potter will be split into two movies. They already announce it and Warner Bros. will open the eighth film in its Potter franchise -- "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part II" -- on July 15, 2011.

So, when will be the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part I" released? It is set to release on November 19, 2010.

For me, this was a good decision that they will split up the last installment into two movies. All of the questions that are left unanswered in the first 6 books will be answered in this installment and I think that many of important scenes will be disregard if the last book will be shown in one movie only.

I really can't wait for the last installment but definitely, I can't wait to watch the 6th installment which is the "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

Tuesday Madness!

February 10, 2009

It was Tuesday morning when Cess and I decided to go to UST to get a transcript of records and get a new alumni card since my card was lost together with my wallet last Christmas 2007. So we decided to meet in UST around 2:30 in the afternoon. We met at Engineering gate and had to burn our lungs for a while. You know what I mean. Hehe.

After a few minutes, we decided to buy an Iced Tea at Frio Mixx. I miss their Peach Iced Tea so much and then we decided to inquire our personal agenda and sadly, the Alumni Office is temporarily closed due to the Job Fair that happened last February 11-13. Grrr... Then we proceed to UST Graduate School to inquire for the masteral.

After doing it so, we proceed to PRC to inquire for the exam date for the Civil Engineering board exams and it was scheduled on May 7-8 and I am about to take that exam. Afterward, we inquire for the rates for the different review center for the refresher course. And I think I found a new home to review and I decided to enroll at Experts Review Center. I think I made the right choice.

Our next agenda, inquire at Mapua Graduate School and on our way to Mapua, we were caught off guard by this man who was wearing a chicken outfit and gave me an offer. I don't what to say because there was a cameraman and Cess is busy talking with another person on her mobile phone. The offer was to eat polvoron as many as I can and in replacement, he will give me 20 bucks for each polvoron. So I tried my best and and I just ate 4 polvorons at the same time and he will give another 50 bucks if I can whistle. I tried my best but no sound was produced and I maintained my poise. Haha. In the end, I just ate 4 polvorons. At least, I have 80 bucks to spend. By the way, this will be shown later at TV5 at around 8:30PM. Promotion? Hehe.

At last, it was already done and we were already at Mapua and they told us that the Mapua Graduate School was already closed because it was already 5:05 in the afternoon. Damn! If that chicken man wasn't able to stop us, maybe we have already a form. Huhu! So we were about to go to Greenbelt and there was this group of students from other school who managed to knock off a Mapuan student and it was scary because they are just one meter away from us and there was blood scattered all over the place. Eeewww.

And finally, we decided to go to Greenbelt already when Kiko, my friend, bumped into us. So we decided to stay for a while and we hangout at the Intramuros Wall and it was fun. Because a lot of people go to this place and Kiko told us that sometimes, it was used as a venue for concerts. And then, we met his ex and I forgot the name but he was the former Mr. Mapua and I don't know what year it was and we met also the Bitchy Roxy. I like her attitude and I found a new friend with Roxy. We decided to ate dinner at a Sizzling House near Mapua and it was like Almer's in UST because of the unlimited gravy. Hehe.

Then we parted and we were so late already because Rac and Denise were already in Starbucks GB3. Haha...We miss each others company because the last time we met was during the LGBT Pride March last December 6, 2008. We had coffee and talk about our Christmas and we talk about our life. It was really nice. Then we decided to sing our hearts out at Timezone GB3.

My day was already perfect but when I saw my ex-bf with another guy inside a videoke room, the pain inside is starting to eat me again. He broke up with me because he said he wanted to be straight and his work is consuming all his time even his social life. But I just saw him with another guy. I thought was I already moving on but when I saw him, I was wrong.

So much for emo-ness in life. I know I was so affected and I just let my heart sing out and release the pain that I had that time.Yes, I wanted to sing until I feel numb. I wanted to sing at the top of my lungs even though I am a frustrated singer. It helped me a lot. Thank God my friends are there to ease the pain.

Still, I am happy that I met my friends again. And we decided to went home because Denise and Rac still have a work the next time. Till next time...
